lessons available in-person, online, and hybrid
Marjory teaches piano lessons at her home studio (Port Coquitlam) and at Place des Arts (Coquitlam). She loves working with all levels from the very young beginner to the advanced piano student. At Place des Arts, she supervises several junior teachers in addition to teaching pedagogy classes to both new and established teachers. She adjudicates music festivals throughout British Columbia, and she is an examiner for Conservatory Canada. As a clinician, she presents masterclasses and workshops to teachers and students on various topics.
Marjory considers the benefits of music education immeasurable for a child's emotional, social, and intellectual development. In her teaching, she encourages and challenges students to strive towards excellence within a kind and supportive environment. She believes everyone has an artist within, and she aspires to guide students on their journey of learning and discovery.
Marjory’s students are recipients of numerous local, provincial, and national awards from festivals, the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers Association, and Conservatory Canada; but what Marjory values most is helping students master the things they thought were impossible, and the privilege of sharing time with children as they grow up.

My family has had the privilege of being piano music and theory students of Marjory Purdy for more than seven years.
Marjory is a tremendously talented teacher who brings a lifetime of experience, knowledge, and resources to her work. I am continuously impressed by her ability to understand, communicate with, and motivate students of all ages, from the youngest fidgety child to the mature adult.
She has a wide range of teaching strategies and techniques and can adapt them appropriately to every type of situation, all with warmth, humour, patience and compassion for each unique student. I have been in awe of her expertise in piano history, composition, and performance, and how she uses her razor-sharp mind and memory to instantly pull out relevant facts and resources.
Marjory is also respected leader in the music community and contributes to well-recognized local and national organizations, with roles in decision-making, mentoring, performance and adjudication.
She is a consummate professional who has successfully adapted to every challenge that has come along, including converting to all the technology and requirements of online teaching, exams and performances. She unfailingly rises to challenges with competence, positivity and grace, and creates a new situation that is even better than before.
As a business administrator, she is highly organized and reliable, and keeps administrative matters simple and straightforward. Very importantly, she communicates superbly and clearly with parents, so we are always informed and up to date.
I can unreservedly recommend Marjory Purdy’s Piano Studio to any family seeking the very best learning experience for their child, both in music and more. When you spend time with Marjory, you are enriched far beyond music at the keyboard - you are enriched in development as a person and in life.
